1. Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Ranchi

Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra is an engineering and technical institute of higher education located near Ranchi, in the state of JharkhandIndia. It awards its own degrees to graduating students, and is a deemed University under the UGC Act, 1956. Since its inception on the main campus in Mesra, extension centres were established in Ras-al-Khaimah and Muscat. It is often referred to by its initials and location: BIT Mesra, and it was never connected to Birla Institute of Technology and Science.

The Birla Institute of Technology was established in 1955 at Mesra by industrialist philanthropist B. M. Birla. The institute was affiliated to Patna University until 1960, and then toInstitute of Science and Management, Ranchi. In 1986 BIT was elevated to a status of deemed university under section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956 under notification No. F. 9-2/83-U.3 28 August 1986.
BIT was the first institute in India to establish a department of space engineering and rocketry, in 1964.[1]
BIT introduced the concept of Small Industries Entrepreneurs Park, and is the first institute in India to facilitate for young entrepreneurs the initial project funding, besides providing nursery sheds, central design and workshop facilities. Small Industries Research and Development Organization (SIRDO) was setup in 1970 as a launching pad for small manufacturing enterprises managed by graduates of BIT. Companies created from this concept include Meditron and Alcast. This idea was appreciated by Department of Science and TechnologyGovernment of India; and was spread to other institutes such as IITs by the Government with a concept named Science and Technological Entrepreneurs Park (STEP). The first STEP was approved and located in BIT Mesra. The entrepreneurship development cell was founded in 2007 and is run by the students. To add financial strength to this effort, BIT has set up SIDBI Centre for Innovation and Incubation (SCII) by an arrangement with Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to provide funds for a limited period of time to new entrepreneurs, start up companies, and technology based organizations, to facilitate Research and Development in areas of interest with the faculty of the institute

2. Department of Computer Science, University of Delhi

The Department of Computer Science, University of Delhi is a department in the University of Delhi under the Faculty of Mathematical Science, set up in 1981.

Courses

The department started the three years Master of Computer Applications (MCA) program in 1982, which was among the first such programs in India. The department startedM.Sc. Computer Science course in 2004.
Besides these the department has research interests in Computer Science and offers a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program. The university conducts a postgraduate Diploma in Computer Applications (PGDCA) program through its constituent colleges. Emphasis is laid not only on the theoretical concepts but also on practical experience and industry interaction.

Infrastructure

The students of the department are affiliated to two libraries.
The Departmental Library: is a reference library with over four thousand titles, in the field of Computer Science and IT and in related areas such as Electronics and Mathematics.
The Central Science Library: is one of the largest science libraries in India. It was established in 1981, and has 2,20,000 volumes of books and periodicals. The website of CSL provides electronic subscription for 27,000 e-journals including IEEE, ACM, Springer journals and proceedings.
